Machine Shop Team Leader/People Prime

Please note experience in a Supervisory position is required.

Braintree Precision Components, is a manufacturer of precision ball and roller bearings and other high-accuracy machined components.  It is part of the Hepco Group, world leaders in the manufacture and supply of a wide range of linear motion products and precision components for automation and special purpose machine projects, require a:

 

Machine Shop Team Leader/People Prime

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Team Leader/People Prime will have day-to-day responsibility and focus on supporting and developing employees.

 

Scope of the Role:

  • Promote a safe working environment and reduce accident trend.
  • 5S percentage score improvement
  • Improve OEE percentage
  • Ensure output targets are met or exceeded
  • People management and performance to include skills, appraisals and development
  • Team communications and daily HR procedural adherence

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Creating and maintaining a positive workforce and developing an effective team working environment
  2. Promote safe working practices
  3. Coaching employees to include addressing performance issues and conducting personal development reviews to improve skills
  4. Identify gaps and implement training plans to support the business needs
  5. Day-to-day HR activities and deal with employee conflict and perform first level disciplinary reviews to include absence management
  6. Develop and support improvement programmes in conjunction with employees
  7. Participate in regular team briefings, to promote and develop a culture of inclusive communication, engagement and co-operation
  8. Planning, organising and prioritising the workloads of machine shop personnel to ensure production targets are met, maximising the utilisation of capital equipment
  9. Key person in ensuring KPI targets on safety, quality, cost, efficiency and delivery are achieved
  10. Maximise the Overall Equipment Effectiveness performance
  11. Adhere to lean principles and working practices including 5S

 

Key Skills:

  • Strong leader with previous experience of coaching and people management to include employee engagement, motivation and performance and development
  • Previous experience of production supervision
  • Appreciation and implementation of lean principles including 5S and SMED
  • Excellent IT  and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Sound knowledge and experience of health and safety compliance

 

Hours of Work

Monday – Thursday:     7.30am – 4.00pm

Friday:                             7.30am – 3.00pm

30-minutes for lunch

10-minute tea break

Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Required to lead the Project Engineering Team, reporting directly to the Group Manufacturing Director.

 

Objectives:

  • Ensure safe systems of work procedures on new equipment
  • Drive a process improvement strategy to reduce waste, implementing automation and lean practices to drive output and productivity
  • Management of Capital Projects
  • Lean, Six Sigma and Process Capability methodology
  • Product Cost Management

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership, development and introduction of the Manufacturing Strategy to support improving quality, reducing costs and improving customer service requirements
  • Process development using Six Sigma methodology
  • Responsible for KPI targets for cost, productivity and delivery.
  • Maintains and adheres to good lean working practices incl. 5S / SMED.
  • Support projects to maximise OEE performance of machines.
  • Cost management ensuring accurate and up to date costs are maintained.
  • Engineering Change Review process management.
  • Liaison with R&D to support their project needs and manage exhibition units.
  • Planning, organising and prioritising engineering projects across site and ensuring safe working practices.
  • Lead, Manage team activities in line with HR systems maintaining a positive working environment and development of your people including team briefings and performance reviews.

Skills / Education:

  • Minimum of degree in an engineering discipline or apprentice served with proven success in the field of engineering management to NVQ level 5+
  • Strong leadership, Coach and People management skills in an engineering / manufacturing environment with experience of leading change
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to develop short, medium and long term strategy
  • Automation knowledge and history of implementing associated technology
  • Lean methodology – 5S, Six Sigma and SMED
  • Project management skills
  • Value Engineering and cost management
  • Customer driven, good communicator, motivator who encourages and adopts on engaging environment
  • Good IT skills and Health and Safety knowledge

Hours of Work:

Monday – Thursday:    7.30 am – 4.30 pm
Friday:                            7.30 am – 12.30 pm
30-minutes lunch
39-hours per week

Although the successful candidate will be expected to be flexible and work the hours required to succeed in the role.

This position requires a good level of experience in a manufacturing purchasing department.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Undertake day-to-day routine purchasing activities
  • Perform regular and comprehensive performance reviews across the supply base, through formal supplier review meetings
  • Identify and implement corrective action plans to improve quality, cost and delivery performance
  • Develop improved purchasing methods to derive greater department efficiencies
  • Liaise between suppliers, manufacturing, sales, R & D and other relevant internal departments to develop optimum supply

 

Essential skills and background:

  • Strong commercial and business acumen
  • Well-developed negotiation skills, able to help suppliers achieve the Company’s goals in cost, performance and quality
  • Knowledge and understanding of the purchasing / supply chain function
  • Self-motivated, driven and able to set personal targets for supplier improvements
  • Full UK driving licence, current passport and a willingness to spend some of your time away from Devon

 

Hours of Work:

Monday – Friday:     9.00am – 5.00pm

35-hours per week.

Production Planning Engineer

 

Skills Required:

  • Creating a method of manufacture for customer requirements consistent with Hepco’s manufacturing processes.
  • Producing manufacturing drawings; therefore, good technical communication skills will be required.
  • Interaction with Production personnel at all levels, to ensure orders are correctly manufactured to customer delivery expectations.

 

Pre-Requisites

Ideally, candidates will be computer literate and hold either a Mechanical Engineering qualification or have served a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.  However, full training on all aspects of the Hepco product range, the Syspro computer systems and our manufacturing processes, will be provided.

 

Hours of Work:

Monday – Friday

9:00am – 5:00pm, 1-hour for lunch

35-hour week
