HepcoMotion® is committed to the continuous development of linear motion. The company invests a significant proportion of its turnover in research and development each year and in this newsletter we introduce you to the latest batch of new introductions.

Ring track technology is a field in which HepcoMotion® is pre-eminent – find out how we are now able to offer rings up to 8m diameter and more. Our applications know-how has driven the introduction of X-Y-Z systems and we explain how they perform optimally in every axis.

HepcoMotion®, Ideas in Motion

Also new is a small sized addition to our SBD range of sealed linear actuators and a neat lockable breaking block for our LBG linear ball guide system. And naturally all these newcomers will be on our stand at Advanced Manufacturing at the NEC in April, please make a date to visit us.

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING – IS IT IN YOUR DIARY? 27th - 28th April

Custom automation, placement & handling systems, drives & controls, motion & motors and machine hardware – these are principle applications featured at the Machine Building and Automation Show in April. And all of them are embraced by the main feature on our stand (number 1630).

On a specially developed demonstration unit we will show you that with the correct choice of linear actuator, a HepcoMotion® X-Y-Z system will operate optimally. See our following article, 'X-Y-Z Linear Systems, 100% Fit For Purpose' for more details.

This show is the UK and Ireland’s foremost showcase for every aspect of industrial and process automation. It is co-located with five other engineering shows – the medical device event MEDTEC, MTEC the UK’s only show dedicated to instrumentation, VTX that targets vision system users, 3C for contamination and cleanroom technology and Practical Vacuum that speaks for itself!

So under the umbrella of Advanced Manufacturing UK, a visit to the NEC on either 27th or 28th April promises to provide a good return on your time. And if you need a ticket just call our sales office on 01884 243400.

X-Y-Z LINEAR SYSTEMS, 100% FIT FOR PURPOSE

The problem with using general purpose actuators throughout an X-Y-Z system is that it doesn’t take account of the specific and different demands on each axis. That's why HepcoMotion® has adopted a new approach. Its X-Y-Z systems use a different actuator in each axis resulting in greater overall efficiency, problem-free production and a long service life.

So this is what a typical HepcoMotion® X-Y-Z system would comprise...

The X-axis
The foundation of the system is the hugely popular PDU2 linear actuator. It features our ultra-high performance Herculane® wheel technology in a compact and cost-effective belt driven unit.

The Y-axis
This requires particularly high load capacity and stiffness against twisting loads and our PDU2M excels in this area. It shares the same proven technology and format as the PDU2 but with moment load capacity tripled and stiffness by a factor of 10.

The Z-axis
Enhanced linear force and higher gearing needs are provided by the stainless steel, lead-screw driven PSD80 linear actuator that also features our Herculane® wheels.

All units fit together using standard components and are easily integrated into frames or more complex machines. And you can choose to specify your system as individual parts, in kit form or fully-assembled - we’ll even provide a complete turnkey service.

NEW BRAKE OPTION

Do you have a linear application that requires a lockable bearing block? This is now an option on our LBG Linear Ball Guide system.

The LBG brake is a simple, compact and effective device for locking a stationary bearing block on a ball guide. Stainless steel bodied for non-corrosion, it comes with range of brake plates to suit most of the LBG bearing block options.

The break assembly has two jaws which, when tightened via the ratchet locking lever, apply equal pressure to the LBG rail to ensure even clamping. When the brake is applied, the resulting clamping force does not impose any load on the bearing block.

Although principally designed to extend the capability of our LBG range, the brake is compatible with all other ball guide systems with which the LBG system is interchangeable.

It’s available ex-stock via the HepcoMotion® e-shop in combination with the most popular guide sizes to suit most automation requirements.

SMALL, SEALED LINEAR ACTUATOR

  • Designed for high duty applications
  • Compact and extremely clean linear solution
  • Metal cover strip eliminates debris and extends system life
  • Attractively priced

Because it's sealed, the new addition to our SBD linear actuator range keeps on working where other systems fail. The new SBD 15-60 with linear ball guide is the smallest of three sizes in this highly popular product range. It is therefore ideal for high volume, high speed systems that manufacture or handle small components.

SBD15-60 linear actuators are supplied in increments of 60mm to 6000mm in one piece but you can achieve unlimited lengths by joining the beams. Options include a long carriage version and also twin bearing carriage blocks to increase load capacity.

HepcoMotion® uniquely offers stainless steel as a standard choice in all its ranges and the SBD 15-60 is no exception to this rule. And naturally it is also fully compatible with our MCS Machine Construction System, allowing it to be incorporated into any bespoke automation system or machine.

LINEAR MOTION RINGS UP TO 8m ... AND BEYOND

Manufacturing individual ring segments that are distortion-free is technically very challenging. HepcoMotion® has been on a long journey to perfect its techniques but now we can ensure excellent roundness and continuity between sections, regardless of diameter. The result is that we are able to supply rings with diameters of any size, ranging from .1m to 8m, or even larger.
