The Application

Piezo electric shockwave technology has become a central element in the management of gall and pancreatic stones, as well as other orthopaedic conditions allowing patients to be treated in hospital outpatients departments.

The process relies on the positional accuracy of the ultrasound source that needs to be adjusted around a C shaped arm to suit the patient and the area being treated. At the extremities of the arm is the X ray source that can be adjusted +/- 30 degrees to suit the angle of the image required.

Product Solution

Hepco’s PRT2 stainless steel ring segment with integral gear provides the 110-degree movement for the ultrasound unit. In turn, the gear drive ensures smooth motion along with accurate positioning.

One key benefit of the V ring in this construction is the ability of the ring to be used unsupported. In order to achieve this, the ring has not been subjected to any special process; the normal controlled flatness apparent with all PRT2 rings will allow use in this way.

With the segment moving and the V bearings fixed into the main body this is a fine example of the versatility of ring systems to provide an easy reliable solution to a potentially difficult application.
