HepcoMotion supports Tiverton’s engineers of the future

Supporting its sponsored teams, linear motion expert HepcoMotion was pleased to attend the Devon regional final of the Jaguar Primary School challenge this week. Held at Petroc, a total of six teams from Castle Primary School and Bolham Primary School attended to race the cars they had been busy designing and manufacturing since January as part of a national competition supported by Jaguar and F1 in Schools.

The children have had a busy few months using CAD/CAM software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test, and then race miniature compressed air powered cars. The teams also had to raise sponsorship and manage budgets to fund research, travel and accommodation. Earlier this year, some of the children visited linear motion expert HepcoMotion to see firsthand some of the machines that are used in the automotive industry. Hepco’s products are used extensively in the automotive industry and in the car manufacturing process – providing some welcomed context for the children manufacturing their cars.

Says HepcoMotion’s Tanya Frost; “All the teams have worked incredibly hard to get here today. The jaguar challenge is the perfect way to get young people interested in science and engineering in a fun an innovative way. As a local engineering firm, we’re always keen to be involved with community projects like this.”

Teachers, parents and sponsors alike turned up to cheer the teams on in the regional finals. Tam I Kat from Bolham School were crowned the overall winners by the judges – including Councillor Steve Flaws.

The national finals will be held on the 22nd June at the British Motor Museum Heritage Centre in Warwickshire.
