A talented young apprentice from Tiverton-based HepcoMotion has been Highly Commended at this year’s PPMA (Processing & Packaging Machinery Association) Group Industry Awards. Against strong competition, first year engineering apprentice, Tobias Cowan, aged 19, received the Highly Commended Apprentice of the Year Award.
Now in its sixth year, the PPMA Group Industry Awards are a notable event in the engineering industry calendar. The Apprentice of the Year award recognises emerging talent within the processing and packaging, robotics and automation industries, celebrating the sector’s most promising apprentices. With a record number of entries this year, the achievement of this award bears testimony to Toby’s high calibre.
Commenting on Tobias’s achievement, HepcoMotion’s Group Apprentice Training Manager, Maurice Porter says, “Tobias undoubtedly deserves this award and we are pleased that his hard work, enthusiasm and dedication has been recognised. As a company we are fully committed to apprenticeships. It not only makes sound business sense but also gives us a real buzz to see our young engineers developing and succeeding.”
A world-leading manufacturer of linear motion systems, HepcoMotion prides itself on providing a highly regarded apprenticeship scheme. Its industry leading programme has trained over 130 apprentices since it started in 1993, and currently there are 17 apprentices at Hepco’s headquarters in Tiverton. Many of Hepco’s former apprentices (including the Group Chairman) can be found throughout the organisation, at all levels of seniority from the boardroom down.
The prestigious event was attended by over 400 guests and hosted by Canadian stand-up comedian Stewart Francis and Sky Sports News presenter Hayley McQueen at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham.
