A talented young apprentice from Tiverton-based HepcoMotion has won a prestigious regional apprentice award at this year’s EEF Future Manufacturing Awards. Against strong competition, Matthew, aged 20, received gold in the First Year Higher Apprentice Award.
The award recognises the outstanding contribution being made by manufacturing apprentices across the region. The award is highly-respected and hotly contested with winners selected by a panel of judges drawn from business leaders, industry experts and academics.
Matthew beat off competition from across the region and won the title after impressing judges with his commitment, ambition and drive to pursue a career in manufacturing. Judges said they had been overwhelmed by the high calibre of apprentices nominated this year, making Matthew’s win even more of an achievement.
Matthew is now in the running for the national title where he will go head-to-head with regional winners from across the UK at the national awards gala in London in January next year.
Not content with one award, HepcoMotion also scooped the silver award with apprentice Craig Capel, aged 21, named as the runner-up in the First Year Higher Apprentice Award. These awards are testament to the high calibre apprenticeship programme that Hepco offers.
Matthew Dower, apprentice at HepcoMotion, says: “I am delighted to have won this award and to have been crowned regional winner. It’s an amazing feeling to be recognised for doing something I genuinely enjoy and is setting me up for my future. I’m only at the very start of my career, so to receive gold at these awards and be singled out in this way is a real boost and will motivate me even more.”
Commenting on Matthew and Craig’s achievement, HepcoMotions Apprentice Training Manager, Maurice Porter says, “Matthew and Craig undoubtedly deserve these awards and we are pleased that their hard work, enthusiasm and dedication has been recognised. As a company we are fully committed to apprenticeships. It not only makes sound business sense but also gives us a real buzz to see our young engineers developing and succeeding.”
Linear motion expert HepcoMotion is committed to the development of young, enthusiastic engineers who have the desire to progress up the career ladder. Offering a well-renowned apprenticeship scheme, Hepco has a strong history working with apprentices as many of the managers and even the chairman himself, started work at HepcoMotion as apprentices. Indeed, nearly 50% of Hepco’s engineering production staff are either apprentices or former apprentices.
The EEF Future Manufacturing Awards are the most established and respected regional and national recognition of manufacturing success. The national winner will be announced at the EEF National Gala Dinner on the 31st January 2017 at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
