Engineering experts from Tiverton-based HepcoMotion egg-celled at the recent Great Egg Race 2016. Named ‘Ovoiding Responsibility’, Tim Page-Brown, Peter Williams and Dan Mortimer-Jones demonstrated cracking engineering skills to scoop first prize against 11 competing teams.
Inspired by the TV series, The Great Egg Race is an annual event organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Held at the University of Plymouth, technical & creative minded teams of students, apprentices and engineers from across the South West gathered for an evening of fun-packed action and eggcitement to construct a machine to solve a mechanical challenge using limited resources (a selection of ordinary household items).
With limited resources and within the allocated time, Ovoiding Responsibility relied on their engineering minds and design skills to create the winning contraption. Working in the R & D department for engineering firm HepcoMotion, the team are well suited to such engineering challenges.
Ovoiding Responsibility received a selection of chocolate eggs to enjoy. Tim Page Brown, Senior Design Engineer at HepcoMotion says “We had a great team and a challenge that suited our capability very well and after 9 years of entering the race, it’s very satisfying to finally have a victory, we’ve been so close before. My thanks to the organisers, who create, manage and run the challenge every year”
